Mr. B.R. Oberoi was the Founder and the first Managing Director of Elgin Hotels Private Limited, the flagship company of Elgin Hotels & Resorts. Popularly known as “Diamond”, Mr. Oberoi was the son of late Kuldip Chand Oberoi.

Mr. B.R Oberoi was educated in India (Darjeeling) and trained at the Oberoi School of Hotel Management in Delhi.

Inspired by his Late uncle Mr. M.S. Oberoi who was the founding Chairman of the Oberoi Group of Hotels, Mr Diamond Oberoi pioneered the development of his own brand “Elgin Hotels and Resorts”. The “Elgin” brand has come to represent fine luxury heritage hotels in the Himalayas of Darjeeling and Sikkim in India.

In addition to providing leadership to the management of Elgin Hotels & Resorts in Darjeeling, Sikkim and Kolkata (Calcutta) in India, Mr B.R. Oberoi was also credited with placing Elgin Hotels & Resorts in the international luxury travelers’ map with the restoration and refurbishment of Elgin Hotels & Resorts in the important and world famous destinations of Kolkata (Calcutta), Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Gangtok and Pelling (Sikkim) in India, thus redefining architectural and design standards in luxury hospitality. A key aspect of this is the development of these hotels that reflect their history and significance.

It was Mr. Oberoi’s firm belief that people are the most valuable asset of any organization, recognizing the importance of quality in hospitality management. Above all, Mr. Oberoi was aware of the need to constantly promote quality in every segment of the hospitality industry. Under his leadership, Elgin Hotels and Resorts had received numerous awards and international recognition.
