Hot Air Ballooning and Paragliding in Darjeeling

In Darjeeling, the popular paragliding take-off point is near St. Paul's School at Jalapahar area which is located at a much higher altitude than the Mall.

Darjeeling was one of the first 3 places in India to have a Hot Air Ballooning facility. The snow-capped Himalayas are felt come alive in a way like no other in a hot air balloon basket or in a harness
suspended below a hollow fabric wing with a private pilot!

The adventure partners of the Elgin, Darjeeling at “Off-Road Darjeeling” bring you Paragliding and Hot Air Ballooning as a recreational adventure sport.

The experience of gliding over the beautiful sunsets surrounded by the Himalayas is once in a lifetime opportunity. One really appreciates the beauty of nature while being so close to it and witnessing the views of the village, castles and the valley. The added bonus of getting multiple chances to capture the wondrous views around in photographs to cherish for a lifetime.

A good time to fly in hot air balloon in Darjeeling is between October and May, when the sky remains clear and the visibility is great. One should avoid hot air balloon during the monsoon.

Para-gliders are unique among soaring aircraft in being easily portable. The complete equipment packs into a rucksack and can be carried easily on the pilot’s back, in a car. In comparison with other air sports this substantially simplifies travel to a suitable take-off spot, the selection of a landing place and return travel.
