A single malt whisky, produced in the foothills of the Himalayas at India’s oldest distillery, has been launched in the UK.

Rampur Indian Single Malt Whisky is distilled in traditional copper pot stills and matured at the Rampur Distillery, which dates back to 1943. Under master blender Anup Barik, it is bottled without chill-filtration at 43% ABV.

The unique distilling location of the Himalayan foothills exposes the whisky to polar-opposite climate
conditions throughout the year which means that Indian whisky matures significantly more quickly than other whiskies such as scotch.

The result is a whisky with a smooth, mellow taste with a long-lasting finish. It has a distinctive malty, creamy vanilla taste, with hints of apricot and apple and a sweet, wine-like finish.

Sanjeev Banga, president of international business for distillery owner Radico Khaitan, said: “Rampur is for the discerning single malt consumer. Single malt consumers prefer uniqueness in the taste. They are always keen to try a new malt. Rampur is different yet pleasing, spicy but balanced.”

Radico Khaitan was established in 1943 and is the largest Indian beverage alcohol company, with three of its distilleries – including the home of Rampur – in Uttar Pradesh in the foothills of the Himalayas.
