With a wealth of hills, castles, and magnificent countryside scenery outside your door, The Elgin Kintore Arms Hotel is an excellent base from which to explore the wonders of the Aberdeen shire and Grampian landscapes. Inverurie is a town of rich history nestled between the banks of the Ury and Don rivers. At close proximity are the Newsbeat Stone circle and Easter Aquorthies – examples of 3rd millennium BC monuments. The Battles of Inverurie (1308 and 1745) and Battle of Harlow (1411) are always of interest to visitors to this area. Other notable local attractions include Fraser Castle, Fyvie Castle and the Loch of Strat beg (a wildlife Special Protection Area). There are many fine golf courses in the area and the Cairngorms National Park is a 40-minute drive. Aside from the battlefields and The Bass, the ruins of the mediaeval Kinkell Church may be found to the southern part of the town. Also, the magnificent Brandsbutt Stone, a rare Pictish sign stone that still exists today.
