Ever since her childhood years she has been quite valiant. She remarked “As a child, I was a tomboy and I was pampered a lot, due to which I became very naughty. I used to keep a stick in my hand and straighten out all the colony boys if they acted smart. When the tall boys would be up to mischief, I’d jump on their back during breaks and pull their hair and beat them up”. This piece of information is the testimony to the little girl’s undaunted persona.

Bipasha Basu was born in a Bengali family in Delhi and raised in Kolkata by her father who is a civil engineer, and mother who is a homemaker. In 1996, Basu was spotted at a hotel in Kolkata by the model Mehr Jesia Rampal, who suggested she take up modeling, and there started the unstoppable journey of a girl to entice the world with her splendor and as she stepped into the Indian cinema with her debut film Ajnabee in 2001 and gained fame through her remarkable work in thriller and horror film genres, and several item numbers.

Spending a major chunk of her life in Kolkata, Bipasha has been fond of the greens of the state, especially Kalimpong. During her childhood days, exploring Kolkata was a delight that she looked forward to as she believes north Indian beauty is nonpareil. While recalling her childhood memories, she recalled “The most special ones are the annual train journeys from Delhi to Kolkata for Durga Pujo. It’s a long route, so it used to be a lot of fun with my sisters and parents along. We also used to travel a lot to the Northeast—Darjeeling and Gangtok. I vividly remember, I saw the first Jurassic Park movie somewhere in the Northeast, and it was funny because we didn’t realise we were in the wrong hall and ended up watching the one dubbed in Bengali!”

In an interview she claimed, “I often visit Kolkata to meet my family.” She told how she loves to surprise her family with her secret visits and flies off every year to Kolkata to celebrate Durga pooja with her loved ones.

Having featured in over 50 films and building a fan base not only in the cinema but fitness industry, modelling, etc. Bipasha has been accoladed with several awards such as Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut that she received for Ajnabee.
