Kapil Dev grace the beautiful city of Gangtok, Sikkim for the inauguration of India’s first betting website by Golden Gaming International Private Limited. On May 16, 2016, Sikkim became India’s only state to house a legal sports betting center.
Kapil Dev, the former captain of the Indian cricket team in 1983 is considered one of the best fast bowlers in Indian cricket’s history. Also, an all-rounder, he led the Indian cricket team to unparalleled success by bringing home a World Cup in 1983. Born on 6 January 1959, he started his cricket career in 1975, at the young age of 16. From the very beginning, he showed great promise. This led BCCI to take a chance on him in 1982 and declared him as the captain of the Indian Cricket team.

With BCCI betting on him in 1983 to bring India glory, it seems natural that Kapil Dev inaugurated the legal sports betting complex. Golden Play Private Limited, a subsidiary of Golden Gaming International Pvt Limited also launched a casino in Sikkim. Online gaming and betting are set up in accordance with the State Government of Sikkim’s regulatory and licensing laws, the Sikkim State Online Gaming (Regulation) Act 2008, and Sikkim Online Gaming (Regulation) Rules.

Sikkim is the only state within the Indian territory to explicitly permit sports betting. However, it is highly regulated, a prerequisite for operating is to get a license to offer such services under the Sikkim Act.
